The Total Eco Challenge campaign continues to grow from strength to strength. By the end of September 2009, more than 3000 tree projects had registered since the initiative was launched in April 2003. Over 500 million more trees were planted by 2009.

The Eco Challenge estimates that Kenya needs to plant more than 100 million trees per year. This remarkable feat was achieved by the Eco Challenge campaign from 2007 to meet demand for forest and wood cover, from its previous denuded and declining state to the target of 10% of the national land area.
