Plant A Future Campaign 2009

Kenya Airways, Coca Cola, Rolls Royce and KLM

For the third year running, the Plant A Future campaign continues to increase forest cover in one of the world's largest walking forests – the Ngong Hills.
120,000 indigenous trees which were planted in 2007 are now growing with minimal supervision.
This year, over 240,000 indigenous trees were planted at the same site with a potential of over 3 million trees to raise plants' diversity for water catchments and animal health in Nairobi National Park and Ngong Forest, not to mention the establishment of a carbon sink and revitalizing of cultural education.
We sincerely thank Plant a Future for creating a paradigm shift among the local Maasais who are traditionally pastoralist but in addition are now raising seed beds, nurseries, planting trees and nurturing them for future generations!

Various organisations have also taken up the Challenge:

A company that in 2009 has doubled the number of trees it supplies to community groups,
to a level of 300 per day! EAST AFRICAN BREWERIES.

For a countrywide programme inspiring and enabling farmers to plant more than 600,000
trees in the past year, a silver award goes to BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO.

And so to our final category of Special Awards, which we are honoured to present to
the following organizations this year.

First, an industrial company that has more than doubled its planting rate in schools, prisons,
municipalities and many, many other locations. Their well-documented tally in 2009 was
1,234,412 trees/ A special award goes to ATHI RIVER MINING.
